Gammon doesn't need much cooking. Any bacon product seems to be full of added water as the crock pot was full of cooking liquor when I came home to the cooked meat
I took the joint out of the slow cooker and the first thing I noticed was that the Dr Pepper hadn’t really caramelised the way that coke does so once you’ve removed the gammon from the cooking liquid you can’t really see that it looks much different to a normal gammonjoint
This is packed full of flavour and juicy, tender meat which just falls apart after cooking. Add all the ingredients bar the gammon to the slow cooker and stir well to combine
It even keeps your food warm once it’s finished cooking. So summer is pretty much over, now it’s time to break out the slow cooker for some hearty soups and stews
The basics – Cooking your ham. You need a ham, we go with an unsmoked gammonjoint. The ham is cooked in the slow cooker so there is almost no work for you to do, switch it on, make some coffee and go watch that box set of “The West Wing” for six hours
Unwrap the gammonjoint and place it in the bottom of the pot of your slow cooker. I've cooked the gammon in the slow cooker so that I didn't have to think about it all day, but you could simmer it slowly in a saucepan or in a lidded casserole dish in a low oven if you wanted to
Sunday – I have a gammonjoint in the freezer that I’m going to pop in the slow cooker. Tomorrow’s the day that I’m going into hospital for my operation – it’s nothing huge and nothing too dramatic but I’m probably not going to feel much like cooking for the next few days
