We have finally eaten all the Christmas biscuits and the cake tin was looking rather bare, so I had a flip through one of my recipe clipping folders and came across Mary'steatimecake, a recipe from the very talented and delightful MaryBerry and published in BBC Good Food magazine
Kate and I are looking for any type of cake, BUT, a Celebration Cake would be WONDERFUL, and there will be a PRIZE for the BEST cakerecipe and post submitted, the prize is a copy of MaryBerry’s Ultimate Cake Book
And the winner of the LOVELY book, MaryBerry’s Ultimate Cake Book, goes to………. Vanessa from Cakes and Teacups for her LOVELY Black Forest Gateau, as this was the FIRST time she has ever attempted anything like this, and she will really benefit from the Mary Bery book as a novice cake maker, plus, her Black Forest Gateau was GORGEOUS
Jen made MaryBerry’s lemon yoghurt cake last year and enjoyed the taste and texture that the yoghurt gave to the cake, so that was the inspiration for this recipe, and I think her cakes look SO pretty as well as sounding wonderful with all those great ingredients
The super cute milkshakes were a brilliant addition too - something MaryBerry would call "fun. Perhaps a lemony dessert or a twist on the usual strawberry jam offering
Our recipe is a MaryBerryrecipe which we have slightly adapted and used our white scone mix, you can actually make four of these cakes from one bag of our mix
This recipe has never failed me and always turns out a lovely deep, moist sponge cake that is man enough to cope with the weight of the jam, cream and extra fruit as well as its other half, without collapsing at all
I followed MaryBerry'srecipe for them and changed a couple of bits here and there to suit. Kate's cake was very messy, but Mary liked the gooseberry flavour
I armed myself with a Christmas pudding recipe from Queen MaryBerry herself, and headed to my local Tesco the day before to buy all the ingredients needed
Taking a lead from the best, Hijacked by Twins shared her MaryBerry’s Bakewell Tart. (Picture below) Very tempted by this Elderberry Tart & also the accompanying recipe for Elderberry Jelly with Port
