I do like a challenge though, so my aim now is to come up with some healthy (ish) recipes that use little or no added sugar that are also tasty enough for the whole family to enjoy
The bananas and date syrup are used to sweeten the recipe, so there's no need to use any unrefined sugar, and the coconut oil helps everything stick together while providing healthy fats
After making my Finger a Fudge Flapjacksrecipe and there is nothing other than the oats healthy about that recipe, but OH SO gorgeous I have favoured flapjacks cut into triangle slices and not the more traditional squares
For a while now, I've been experimenting with differing recipes using protein powder. I absolutely adore baking (as you might have guessed), but with a gym-obsessed boyfriend with a sweet-tooth who moans about the amount of sugar and fat I'm tempting him with, I decided to try and find alternative 'healthier' recipes
Healthy chocolate flapjacks I hear you question. Well, knowing how popular my banana and date flapjackrecipe is, I thought I would set about creating a chocolate one, and what better excuse than being challenged by Holland & Barrett to do so for their big freefrom bake off competition
And somehow it's nowhealthy for you. And since I'm the one coming up with this recipe, well then you won't be surprised that I threw in some pretzel brittle (salted pretzels drenched in caramel) and a little (okay a lot of) peanut butter sauce just for funzies
More healthyrecipes are at TheFoodChampions. They also advise that the flapjacks can be made in advance, portioned-up and easily transported so are an ideal and healthy snack to help refuel during a long training ride
A delicious healthyflapjackrecipe packed with juicy strawberries. Healthy Roasted NectarinesRecipe. These healthyflapjacks are gluten, dairy, egg free and contain no refined sugar
They are deliciously moist thanks to the mashed banana and hold together brilliantly despite not being loaded up with butter and lots of sugar, and since they are basically just fruit and oats they are amazingly good for you- the healthy fat from the coconut oïl will nourish your body and you can always leave the rice syrup out to make them even more virtuous
