Ingredients

  • For the meatballs
  • 500 g | 1.1 lbs beef mince, 10% fat
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled
  • 2 large garlic cloves, peeled
  • 3 tbsp Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan (ready grated is fine)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp onion granules
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • For the tomato sauce
  • 400 g | 14oz tinned Italian plum tomatoes in sauce
  • small glass white wine (or water or vegetable stock)
  • 1 large onion, peeled
  • 2 large garlic cloves, peeled
  • small bunch fresh basil leaves, roughly torn
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp celery salt (optional)
  • dash Worcestershire sauce
  • pinch cloves
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to season
  • freshly grated Parmesan to serve
