Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely sliced
  • 1 kg stewing beef, cut into 2cm cubes
  • 2 x 400 g tins of canned chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
  • 700 g new potatoes, (unpeeled), larger ones halved
  • 2 tbsp capers, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tbsp pitted and chopped black olive
  • 1 tbsp chopped thyme or rosemary
