  • 0.75 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 100 g black treacle (or molasses)
  • 75 g golden syrup*
  • 75 g granulated sugar
  • 75 g butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 75 ml water
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 balls stem ginger, grated
  • 1 large egg
