Ingredients

  • For 4-6 portions you need
  • For the dhal
  • 200 g chana dhal, rinsed and soaked in cold water for 1-2 hours 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 whole cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, left whole and slit, seeds left in
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • For the tarka
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • large knob of butter/vegan spread
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp asafoetida
  • Small handful of fresh curry leaves
  • Fresh coriander leave to serve
