) and went to take the butter out of the fridge, so it would be out overnight. Next take the jam you madeearlier (oops – I’d already skipped that step) but I had done so knowing I had some delicious hand-madeblackberryjam from Pittormie Fruit Farm
Rye is ahealtheiralternative to regularwheat flour, however becauseof this it hasa low gluten content andasPaul tells us it is "extremely difficult to work with" as you have to work the dough much more thanusual to build up the gluten
It's really gotten to the point with this year'sGreat British BakeOff where anythingcanhappenand one wrong week could see the departureofanyof the baker's
It’s biscuitweek, alwaysafavourite nibble of mine, maybe it should be described ashairyweek. Richard’s were nice to go with cheese, Jordan’s were abit burnt in taste, Chetnawasaromatic, Luis’ uniform andtasty with Olives although three minutes away from perfection
Aspartof my #GBBOBakeAlong I had to tacklesavourybiscuitsand since I am currently on holiday in Greece I had to bake them without anyscales or measuring cups (that is actuallyan interesting baking exercise)
Val left this week, andalthough I'd found her quite irritating (I think she hasabitofaMarmitepersonality where you either love or hate her), I did feel sorry for her as she seemed very upset

Thankfully they enjoyed the flavoursof the biscuitsandchocolate. Nadiya sculpted apeacock from marshmallow puffed rice and modelling chocolate, with biscuitpeacock eggs in achocolate nest
We're on week two andthatmeansbiscuits on The Great British BakeOff. PaulandMary were looking for a dry biscuit with a good snap, but not so dry it breaks your teeth
I let the chocolate cool abit more and tried again. This step is absolutelycrucialand in fact Ruby Tandoh (a previous year’sGBBOfinalist) makes little circles ofgreaseproof to put in the bun tray before the mixture goes in – I’m sure it works but it’s way too fiddly & time-consuming in my opinion
The Great British BakeOffhas followed the sameformatof episode themes for a few years now, so it wasgreat to see it move with the latest food trends andhavea 'free from' themed episode this week
They were abitpaleand topsy turvy according to Mary, but both of the judges adored his fillings. Ian went abit fishy with some squid ink, baconandscallop vol au vents
It wasbreadweek on The Great British BakeOffand there were bread puns aplentyas Mel and Sue opened the show on a (bread) roll andwearingloafers - you can't help but giggle
