and the shop bought ones areusually so disappointing, so this weekend I decided to try to make my own with excellent results, using a recipe I got from aNational Trust baking book
A sweet dough is rolled out and then filled with dried fruits (usuallycurrants). Place the pieces cut side up andleavealittlespace in between them as they will expand
For me, the standout recipes in this book were the RaspberryAngelCake, Willie Harcourt-Cooze's Cloud Forest ChocolateCake, Pastel de ChocolateMexicano (A Chilli Chooclatecake), Espresso MarbleCake, Olive Oil CakewithPeaches, RichardCorrigan's More Stout ThanTreacleCake, Basbousa (aSemolinacake), BananaCheesecake, Mustikkapiiraat (Finnish Blueberry Buns), CinnamonBearClawsand Christopher Farrugia'sMaltesePrinjolata
I love a good sticky bun and it's a tough call when facedwithaChelsea bun or aBelgian Bun, we quite often buy both types from the supermarket but only when they are in the reduced price section
cakes), and found this interesting looking recipe for chelseabuns on the BBC website. me and Pete have been eating these bunsall this week (althoughsadly we've now run out) and they still taste quite fresh
Alongwith the plantsand flowers the children nourish in the garden, we see their appetites growing and they discover the delights of fresh milk, porridge, home madebreadandjamandcurrantbuns
- While the bunsare still warm brush with the warmmarmalade. - Add the milk and the egg to the flour and mix well witha wooden spoon until it comes together into a soft dough
Although the traditionalChelsea Bun containsacombination of currants, sultanasand peel, generously spreadwith butter and brown sugar, they canmake the perfect base for avariety of sweet fillings
And here my littleangel stops me with her cry. Next time I would put some sugar in the dough because I'm sweet tooth and the dough could be sweeter if you eatbunswithout icing
I came up with this recipe after deciding that my breakfast needed spicing up, obviously this wasatreatand I think eatinga piece of this for breakfasteveryday would not only take up my dailycalories but also rot my teeth, but for aspecialbreakfast or even anafternoonsnack it is perfect
