Mum's BeefStew and My Dumplings. Chuck this in the slow cooker and leave it for the day to cook away, making that beef meltingly tender and keeping you stress-free
Perfect for chilly winter nights, this easy peasy Beef and Ale Stew with Dumplings is a total comfort food classic – the edible equivalent of a great big hug
1 kg beef shin or skirt (the best quality that you can find). 1) Allow the beef to come to room temperature and cut into large chunks. 2) Heat the lard until smoking in a large casserole and fry the beef hard in batches until crispy and golden, do not stir as this will make it release moisture and stew. 5) Add the beef, beer and bay leaves, bring to the simmer stirring occasionally and simmer for 12 hours (an oven at around 90C is perfect) with a lid on. 7) Spoon the dumpling mixture onto the top of the stew and replace the lid, allow to steam for around 1 hour back in the oven. 1 kg beef shin or skirt (the best quality that you can find)
Add the beef and stir-fry until browned. 1700g lean beef steak, visible fat removed, cut into bite-sized pieces. 1600ml hot beef stock. When the stew has been cooking for 2 hours, remove the lid and place the dumplings on top. Divide the stew and dumplings equally between 4 bowls and serve with your favourite vegetables
Who knew that Beef & Dumplings would just as awesome as Chicken & Dumplings. Once done, the dough will still look a little wet on top, but will be soft, fluffy, and cooked through on the inside
Keep on a medium high heat and shallow fry the sourdough balls batches at a time so the pan isn't over crowded, these should be golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside
Awesome gravy. I was shocked to realise, a few days ago, that it was (very) early Spring and I had yet to make a beefstew with dumplings in the slow cooker
Beef, root veg, suet and ale. I’ve made lots of stews but I reckon this is the best to date. Despite the dumplings I ate this with mashed potato, but to be honest that was overkill
The whole family enjoyed the winter warmer dish, the tasty beefstew in rich red wine sauce was complemented by herb dumplings, making it a perfect hearty meal in a cold evening
