I wanted to make something so luxurious and tasty that you wouldn't even know it is healthy(er). I created these salted caramel applecrumble cheesecake bars
You may be thinking that the world doesn’t need another applecrumblerecipe but here’s where I share one that’s a tad different and super yummy – this fruit crumble will knock your socks off whilst still keeping its firm place with being one of the ultimate comfort food desserts
We had a collection of blackberries hanging around after the kids went foraging and I was going to make a standardcrumble but then thought a nice appleand blackberry loaf topped with a crunchy crumble would go down a treat
I’m really pleased with these apple muffins, made with wholewheat flour, fresh apple pieces, mixed spice frosting and a sprinkling a freshly baked crumble topping
And it’s even better with homemade custard. Serve with homemade warm custard. On a cold Sunday lunchtime, there is nothing better than sitting down for a lovely roast dinner followed by a bowl of appleand blackberry crumble
Pre-heat oven to 200 degree CGrease a large oven proof dish with a small knob of butterAdd apples, pears and honey to the baking dish and cover with the honey and water, making sure the fruit is well covered. Bake for 10 minutesIn a separate large bowl, rub together the butter and flour using your fingers to create breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and spoon onto the fruit mixture ensuring it is completely coveredBake for 30 minutesServe warm with with custard
I did a bit of a double take when I was flicking through my Food Glorious Food recipe book and I saw a recipe for Aunt Freda's Maunsel Pudding which is basically applecrumble with a chopped up Mars Bar in it
Now, this recipe is perhaps a bit more faff than a standardcrumblerecipe. And now here’s a disclaimer – I actually put W on crumble-duty the vast majority of the time
cooking apples - peeled, and cut into similar sized pieces - cooked until just soft with. If you have some crumble mix leftover, this can be put into a plastic bag/container and frozen until you need it next time
Full of autumnal flavours this is perfect as the weather turns colder, I’ve bought the flavours and textures of a classic applecrumbleand mixed them with an utterly amazing cheesecake…and boy does it work
