The soup has been all the more enjoyableas it is the season for tomatoes, andmanya kilo of home-grown tomatoeshave found themselves in my weeklybatch of this tasty soup
Oh yes, as this recipehas herbs in it, I amalso linking it up to my own Herbs on Saturdaychallenge too, where there is a wonderful prize up for grab, for the best recipe of the month – so, if you have cooked with herbs on anyday throughout the month, do join in here
well, what with doing my Wartime Kitchen andpreparing for Christmas, I have not had time to post anymealplans, or indeed any of my new recipes, but, I am rectifying thattoday with a NEW recipethat’s just right for all the snow and frost we have been having over the last few days – a Scottish inspired Highland Stew
it’s greatasanaccompaniment to anymeal, as well as being wonderful when made for the buffet table – CoronationPotatoSalad - and just in time for New Year
I often hankeraftertasty “fast food” types of food when I am on adiet, andalthough I have never really found a decent chicken kebab outside of Cyprus (or Turkey and Greece) I do love a good take-awaykebab now and then
And yes, I have not posted in two days, which is VERY unusual for me, but I have lots of lovely recipes to share with you over the next few days, as well as some reviews, news, giveawaysandaweeklymealplantoo……along with photos and my daily thoughts, I hope to be back on track (excuse the pun – all this talk of trainshas obviously affected me) very soon
Porridge Pancakes with Manuka Honey (New recipe to follow). Milk allowance. Breakfast. Mushrooms or tomatoes on toast, as well as egg on toast is a close second, and when I saw some lovely fresh and VERY seasonalautumn mushrooms at the market the other day, I set out to prove that you CANhave your “on toast” treat on adiet, that is tastyand full of flavour
I amalsoa lifelong Weight Watchers member, and I used to followasimilar regime when saving points to used for aspecialmeal or for the weekend, where I would eat less on one or two days during the week
Not entirely – that would be a very badidea. “If you were sticking to your fastdays, then in terms of cardiovasculardisease risk, it didn’t seem to matter if you were eatingahigh-fat or low-fatdiet on your feed (non-fast) days,” she said
Diet Food and Comfort Food – Farmhouse Chicken & Vegetable Stew with Dumplings Recipe. so, whatcan be better on a VERY cold spring daythana bowl of comforting andhearty soup – it certainly fits the bill
I am finding myself being drawn more and more to comfort food recipes, asautumn deepens and the first frosts appear, and so it’s with greatpleasurethat I share my heartyHungarianSavoury Minced Beef, this is areal comfort mealand is low in calories, but, it is alsosuitable for a mid-week family supper – frugaland thrifty it may be, but it certainly doesn’t lack in flavour
The Marmaladehas been made, for my grand entry into the World’s OriginalMarmaladeAwards, British FarmhouseBreakfast Week is over andJanuary is about to slither out in either anavalanche of snow or a deluge of flooding, and, it is anotherMealPlanningMonday post – WHERE did last week go
Fish on Friday – Chilli andGarlicBlackenedSalmon Fillets. I alwaysmakesabatch of this up along with my soup recipe in readiness for my two low-caloriefastdays, as it’s allpreparedandready to snack on, as well asmakingaGREAT fruity kick-startbreakfast for the start of the day
But with the startback to school for the Autumn term, my ideas turned to portable food that would be handy for anyone who wanted to lovely packed lunch on their fastdays……thissalad is anadaptedrecipe from an OLD Weight Watcher’s cookbook and I haveadded my stamp on it – it’s full of flavour, heartyand filling and I just LOVE the minty lemon dressing
Meal type. I amratherpleased with this recipe, not just because it is very filling and extremely flavoursome, but because my husband, who is NOT followinganydiet, asked if he could have some for his lunch, as the aromaticfragrance of the lemons, cumin andgarlic infused the kitchen andapparentlytitillated his taste buds
RandomRecipesItalian Pepper Stew – Rustic Peperonata (Recipe to follow) with baguette. This mealplan is being added to At Home with Mrs M’s MealPlanningMonday Linky – Thanksasalways Mrs M
I madea noodle andvegetable stirfry to go with the chicken – if I’d had the sparecalories, I might have cooked some rice and the vegetables would have been added into the sweet and sour mix instead, but shirataki noodles, while filling, really do need to be cooked with something
There is a lot to be said for anation where even the supermarkets shut for lunch, it has my fullest seal of approval, although I wasastounded to be turned away from Poitiers airport once, as it was closed for lunch – I wasadvised to enjoy aplat du jour myself at the café, until it opened for check-in
